Thanks to all our supporters!

As of America’s 234th birthday, Brasslands has officially met it’s Kickstarter goal––and then some! At the closing bell yesterday, the film was funded for $10,624 thanks to the dedication and support from more than 200 backers!

Needless to say, we at the Brasslands team and Meerkat Media are thrilled and humbled by their generosity. The money contributed  will make it possible for us to film in Serbia and with the right equipment and do proper justice to this film. Thanks to them, this movie promises to be as thumping as a Balkan brass band.

The success of our Kickstarter campaign also goes to show there are an enormous pack of people out there who care about Serbian brass music and believe in Meerkat projects. Just look at that enormous brick of names in the contributor’s list! We’re touched and heartened by the outpouring . Brasslands is still shy of its overall budget of $75,000 and will be looking for other  forms of support to close off the gap in future, but we have made an important first step. So, to the following people who made it happen, hvala!:

About the Film

An eccentric NYC band, a tiny Balkan village, and half a million fans transcend borders at the world’s largest trumpet festival.

The tiny Serbian town of Guča explodes with brass cacophony as half a million fans descend upon the world’s biggest trumpet festival. This year’s 50th festival anniversary promises to be an event of epic proportions, showcasing the musical pride of a region still recovering from decades of political upheaval. At stake is a singular moment in history when people from opposite sides of the globe are forced to confront the origins of their cultural identities in very different ways. Brasslands is the story of an unlikely American brass band’s journey across the Atlantic, their music, and just below the surface the human stories that play to this Balkan soundtrack.
